What is Hypnotism?
|
|

|
Hypnotism is a completely natural state of relaxed,
focused attention that you experience lots of times a day, but
call by different names:
- Daydreaming
- Concentrating
- Inspiration
- Being in “the zone” in sports
- Just before dozing off
When you watch a movie or “get lost” in a book,
those are examples of the hypnotic “trance.”
All of these experiences are times when your conscious
mind (sometimes called your “critical thinking” or “left brain”)
relaxes enough to let your unconscious mind (“right brain” or
your creative side) join in.
The only difference between these times and hypnotism
is having a guide (the hypnotist) who can help your two minds
work together towards a goal you desire which neither one can
do alone.

What if I can’t be hypnotized? [back
to top]
|
|
|
I practice a natural form of hypnotism which makes
use of a state of mind that we all experience every day, so anyone
can benefit from it. Since you’re already having this experience
on your own, I teach many of my clients how to use this skill
for themselves (called self-hypnosis).

Will I lose control? [back to top]
|
|

|
The “making someone bark like a dog” kind of hypnotism
is called “stage hypnotism.” The performer picks people in the
audience who want to have fun, and he uses their natural inclination
to make a good show. Even so, people can not be made to do anything
they don’t want to.
The form of hypnotism I utilize, is about giving
you control over habits and thoughts which are getting in
the way of your achieving your goals.

How does it work? [back
to top]
|
|

|
Our minds are divided into two parts: the conscious
and the unconscious.
The conscious part of you makes decisions and
“controls” your behavior, so if you decide, right now, to take
a deep breath, you can (try it).
This part of our mind can only focus on one thing
at a time. For example, if I remind you that you can feel your
toe (try it), your conscious mind focuses its attention on your
toes. Unfortunately, when it does that, it stops focusing on your
breath, and so if it was the only mind we had, you would be gasping
for air, right now.
Fortunately, your unconscious mind (which is actually
the MUCH larger portion of your brain) can do lots of things
at once, so besides pumping your heart, and healing your body,
storing memories and focusing your eyes on these words, it jumps
in and takes over your breathing for you, without your even noticing.
Hypnotism gives you access to this powerful, multi-tasker.
Your conscious mind may decide that you should
eat less, but then it moves on to listening to the conversation,
or worrying about the price of the meal. Meanwhile, the unconscious
mind, if it is programmed to watch what you are eating, will never
get distracted, and can keep focused on your goal, even when you
are asleep!

What are the benefits? [back to top] |

*Results attributed to hypnosis. Singer Lily Allen is not a client
of mine.
|
As a result of this “two-mind” solution, you can
change habits, emotions and thoughts which seem beyond your conscious
control (because they are!).
Hypnosis uses relaxation as a tool to still the
conscious mind, so it is excellent at helping with stress
and anxiety.
Because the unconscious mind can be programmed
to control habits, conditions like smoking, over-eating or
nervous habits like nail-biting can be effortlessly changed.
Other conditions like negative self-talk,
exaggerated fears (flying, elevators, public speaking) also have
great success rates.

Help with SMOKING[back to top] |
|
|
Now that you are ready to stop smoking...
You may want some help. About 25% of people
who try to quit on their own succeed. That number jumps to 60%
with hypnosis because it helps with impulse and habit control.
(Add in acupuncture to help with the physical addiction - see
below - and your chances of success rise substantially.)
Cigarettes are currently meeting some important
needs of yours (relaxation, enjoyment, etc.). And, they are
NOT meeting other REALLY important needs of yours (health, long
life, etc.).
The way to stop any habit, is to find out what
needs are being met and meet those needs in other, better
ways.
You may have noticed that your will can
get you to stop for a while, but then it seems to fade.
That's because will is a conscious mind
function. Your conscious mind can control many of the same things
as your unconscious (like your breathing) but as soon as it
starts thinking about something else, it forgets to keep that
part of you under control. (Try controlling your breathing now...)
But your unconscious mind never forgets.
So even now, you've probably stopped controlling your breathing
with your conscious mind, so your unconscious mind stepped in
and took over. Imagine engaging that power to help you stop
smoking!
For most people, smoking requires about four sessions.

Help with WEIGHT LOSS[back to top] |
|
|
Now that you are ready to lose weight...
The way to stop any habit, is to find out what
needs are being met and meet those needs in other, better
ways.
Is your eating an attempt to stuff down some
feelings, or is it the one area you allow yourself unfettered
joy?
In either case, your
will may be able to get you to stop for a while, but
then it will always lose to the unconscious need.
Together, we'll find the positive intention
you're getting met through eating in ways that don't work for
your body and make sure to replace that in your unconscious
with a different strategy which also meets your health and weight
goals.

Help with Anxiety[back to top] |

I Could Not Have Imagined the Results!
For a number of years, I have suffered from
severe morning anxiety attacks - waking up into fear and
anxiety that would often last for hours. You can imagine
how that crippled my days.
When Max suggested to me that hypnotherapy
might help, I was skeptical but willing to give it a try.
After a few sessions with Max, I was amazed
to find that my anxiety was rapidly diminishing. IIt is
now a month later, and 80-90% of my morning anxiety has
disappeared. I almost can't believe the change. This stuff
really works! .

Now that you are ready to find peace...
Anxiety (nail biting, worry, sleep disorders,
etc.) are the result of using your conscious mind to handle
issues that are in the realm of the unconscious. It's like trying
to swallow food with your hands. Hands are very handy, but they
are not designed for nourishment.
Trance work is the ideal way to transfer the
issues that worry you, over to the part of you that was designed
to work with them successfully.

Now that you are ready to have a good night's
sleep ...
Sleep is a deep form of trance, so it is very
suggestable to input from hypnotism. Your unconscious performs
lots of tasks in your sleep: dreaming, storing long-term memories,
relaxing some parts of the body while keeping others (bladder,
etc.) tensed. Generally we teach our bodies what we want through
accident or habit, and often our unconscious, which is fine
doing whatever you want, gets the wrong idea based on a few
repetitions of the wrong kind of habit.
Snoring and sleep apnea are examples of this.
No one snores with they are awake, so we all know how to tense
the muscles in our throat to keep our airway clear. But as we
grow older, muscles grow slack, and flaps grow bigger, and although
the unconscious is perfectly happy to add these muscles to the
list it keeps tight while you sleep, you need a way to teach
it what you want.
Trance work is the ideal way to add the parts
of you that need to stay clear even while you are asleep.

Help with Drugs and Side Effects[back to top] |

Testimonial
My doctor put me on anti-depressants when I started
to feel depressed. I was on them for years, and then things
started to get worse, so he put me on an anti-psychotic,
and a few days later, I started having psychotic episodes.
He took me off immediately, and I went into withdrawal from
all the drugs, AND I still felt depressed and not at all
like myself.
After one session with you, I felt my old
self come back. I'm feeling better than I have in years.

Now that you are ready to return to normal...
Clinical Depression is a chemical
inbalance in a small segment of the population that can benefit
from being re-balanced by drugs.
But the medical community (egged on by the drug
companies) and the general public have comfused this medical
condition with the psychologic state of sadness which is not
being resolved (by feeling the sadness and discharging it) which
leads to feeling depressed, which is not a clinical
illness.
Hypnosis can help you deal with the source
of your depressed feelings, as well as flushing the toxic drugs
from your system (like it does with any toxicity in your system,
from food waste to heavy metals).
Trance work is the ideal way to release both
the source of the depression and detoxify your body.
