Who Are We [back to top]

Max and Elise Rivers are Two Rivers Mediation. We are life-partners as well as co-mediators. Both were trained by TMTC (The Mediation and Training Collaborative) in Mediation and CHINS (Children in Need of Services) in Greenfield MA. We have also taken advanced mediation trainings from MWI (Mediation Works, Inc.) in Facilitation, and Max has is also Certified in Negotiation (MWI), Divorce Mediation (Berkshire Mediation) and Victim Offender Dialogues (Brattleboro Community Justice Center) (See Max's Resume). Elise is also an attorney and acupuncturist.

We are members of ACR (Alternative Conflict Resolution - the national organization of mediators).

Elise is a graduate of the Priestess Path Training which reclaims women's history and power. Max was the Director of the Boston Men's Center for 15 years, running hundreds of men's groups and workshops across the Northeast including Interface in Boston and the NY Open Center.

Together they are pioneering the use of mediation to help committed couples work through their differences and learn to communicate constructively.

Our own spiritual path is called Jewish Renewal, which is an experiential form of Mystical Judaism. For clients who have a spiritual bent, we can use the spiritual metaphors of your practice and help you become the kind of person your highest self envisions in your dealings with your partners in life.

When Are We Available? [back to top]

Sessions last 1.5 hours. We sometimes do hour sessions for our graduated clients who have an issue come up that they just need a bit of help getting over.

Since most clients prefer mediating evenings and weekends, we have timeslots available during those times. We also are available days by appointment. Contact us for current time slots which are open.

Other Options:

Besides our Mt. Airy (NW Philly, PA) office, we are also available to come to your office or home (there is an extra charge, depending on travel time).

We can also do mediations over the phone. If either or both participant(s) are too distant to come to Mt. Airy, we can do speaker-phone mediations. Our experience has been surprisingly good in cases where this was necessary.

Contact us to schedule an appointment.

How Much Does It Cost? [back to top]

For couples with children and infants, we have professional childcare workers who will occupy your children in the next room (or on our roomy porch and lawn on nice days) during your session.

We subsidize this cost, paying 50% of the $30/session fee so you pay only $15.

Other Charges:

Some types of mediation which have a lot of administrative work between sessions (like divorce) have an added hourly fee.

Cancellations:

No charge if at least 24 hours notice, otherwise 1/2 the cost of a session.

Clients who buy packages of four sessions:

  • Canceling a pre-paid package visit leaves you with the same number of visits in your package (if you were unable to have your second session, your next session counts as your second);
  • Canceling all the rest of your sessions in the package will mean a refund of a portion of your pre-payment, with the sessions already done charged at the non-package rate (so if your package rate was $200/session and you completed two sessions, and the non-package rate was $250/session, you would be refunded from the four-session prepayment of $800 less two non-package sessions at $250 or $800-$500=$300).
